Anatomy of a wall that lasts

The cheap wall and the right wall look the same. For about a year.

01 / 06 — Excavate & compact

We dig below frost and compact native soil. Skip this and the whole wall settles with the ground under it.

What we build

Walls first.
Then what's on top.

Not just walls

We lay
pavers too.

Same crew, same standard. Excavated, compacted and screeded right — so your patio stays flat and your joints stay tight instead of heaving after the first winter. Pair it with a wall or have us do it on its own.

A hillside nobody could use, turned into a level patio held by a curved block wall. That's what a wall is really for: getting your yard back.

with Jake.
Not a salesman.

Jake started The Retaining Wall Company to do one thing better than anyone in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky: build walls that actually last. Engineered walls, Allan Block and driveway walls — the jobs that take real structural know-how, not just a shovel and a level.

“Solid crew, showed up when they said they would, and the retaining wall they built for our patio project is exactly what we wanted.”
Jason Miller — Property owner, Mason, OH

Straight answers

Questions people ask Jake.

How much does a retaining wall cost?+

It depends on height, length, access, soil and drainage — a short garden wall and a tall engineered wall under a driveway are completely different jobs. Jake gives you a written number after a free on-site walk, so you're never guessing off a square-foot average.

Do I need an engineered wall?+

Taller walls, walls holding up a driveway, structure or steep slope, and walls in poor soil usually do — and many municipalities require engineering past a certain height. We'll tell you straight on the walk-through whether yours needs it.

My wall is leaning or bulging. Can it be repaired?+

Sometimes a section can be rebuilt; often the real problem is drainage that was never installed, and the wall needs to come out and go back in correctly. Text Jake a photo and he'll tell you which one you're looking at.

What's the difference between Allan Block and poured concrete?+

Segmental block like Allan Block flexes slightly with freeze-thaw, drains by design and is easy to repair course by course. Poured walls can crack when water gets trapped behind them. For most residential walls in Cincinnati and NKY, engineered block is the better long-term call.

How long does a build take?+

Most residential walls are a matter of days to a couple of weeks once we're on site, depending on size and access. You'll get the schedule in writing with your estimate.

What areas do you serve?+

Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky — Anderson Township, Hyde Park, Mason, Fort Thomas, Crestview Hills and everywhere in between. If you're not sure, just call.
